Mr & Mrs Bund is a beautiful venue on the Bund where you can enjoy a fantastic view of the futuristic Shanghai skyline… even when it rains.
The venue is the go-to place for amazing global cuisine of the strong French influence for those who want great food and a high-end experience without breaking the bank. If you order wisely, you shouldn’t worry about spending more than 300-400 RMB a head.
I went for brunch and selected an hearty mix of eggs, salads, meats and breads.
Eggs (75 RMB 1 poached egg): all of them are delicious, beautiful and comforting. I tried the salmon poached egg which comes with a very welcome dollop of salmon roe. The duck confit one hits the spot while the Egg Tartelette Anchovy Nicoise is a masterpiece of its own both for presentation and taste.
Picnic Chicken Ailoli (130 RMB): this one is a must if you like your garlic sauce beautifully creamy and your chicken breast perfectly moist.
Foie Gras Light Crumble: a foie gras mousse mixed with a trouble of dried fruits and nuts. It comes with a sour dough bread but I loved it better with the brioche bread from the bread basket.
Signature Arugula and Mushroom salad (100 RMB): how good can a salad be? Well very good if made the right way. This salad with truffle is a nice break between the egg course and the heavier chicken and foie gras.
Real French Toast (80 RMB): well… This is THE French toast in Shanghai. The ballsiest, single piece of bread you’ll see. Perfectly caramelised crust and the most amazingly fluffy, creamy texture. You may feel stupid for paying 80 RMB for a piece of bread, but honestly, I’d pay for it over and over again.
Lulu’s Tips: if you’re going for coffee choose the set that comes with the bread basket. You’ll have enough coffee for three cups and the croissants are amazing.
