I came here last weekend under a friend suggestion. We were shopping for dinner at Avocado Lady and Little Catch when he realized we were so close to Senator Saloon.
The bar doesn’t have a sign, but is absolutely recognizable, even from outside, from the dim lighting and 20s allure that’s visible through the old curtains that face the sidewalk.
As soon as you step in, a smell of old liquor and mould hits your nostrils while the 20s tunes and decor transport you into another dimension.
It was just 4 pm when we entered and inside it was so dark it felt like the middle of the night. Anyways we ordered three cocktails, and the three of them where nice and strong, nicely balanced. Mine was a really strong President, made with Rhum agricolo and curaçao. It took me quite a while to finish it, and I was definitely tipsy afterwards.
The prices of the cocktails run between 65-90, mine was 75rmb.
The list of whiskey and bourbons is long and complete. I love it how they have an index at the end to explain all the ingredients they use in their cocktails. Highly informative and useful for a less cocktail savvy clientele.
We haven’t tried the food this time but I will definitely be coming back soon, maybe even at a later stage of the day as coming out of the Senator Saloon all tipsy at 5 was not a great idea.
